increase in salary of £60 per annum whereas the salary of
Master in charge of the Police School amounts, with ex-
-change compensation at 3 shillings to the dollar, to £90
per annum. Mr. Dealy is prepared to sacrifice the £30 for
3 years for the sake of the promotion and the ultimately
better pay that will accrue to him from it and I propose
to avoid the necessity of having on any future occasion
to offer the alternative of resignation of an office held
in one Department or forfeiture of promotion in another by
making the charge of the Police School no longer a
permanent appointment and by giving a temporary allowance
as remuneration to the Officer actually performing the
duty. I propose that this allowance should be at the rate
of $900 per annum which at the present rate of exchange is
approximately equivalent to the approved salary of $600
per annum with exchange compensation at the rate of 3
shillings to the dollar.

I further propose to offer the
charge of the Police School with the allowance at the rate
specified to Mr. A. V. Grant who is now on leave, on his
